Rashba Residence
Set within the leafy streets of Rehavia, one of Jerusalem's most distinguished neighbourhoods, Rashba was a remarkable exercise in preserving the past while creating something entirely new. Originally built in the 1930s, the heritage-listed building was carefully restored and expanded, with two and a half contemporary floors added above the original structure. Throughout the project, every decision was guided by a respect for the building's history and a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.
One of the project's most complex undertakings involved structurally supporting the original façade while excavating a new underground parking level beneath it. Rather than drawing a sharp line between old and new, the design celebrated their connection. A distinctive historical balcony detail was extended around the perimeter of the building, elegantly linking the preserved façade with the contemporary addition above.
The result is a residence distinguished by bespoke detailing at every turn. Travertine lines the building's central stairwell: floors, walls and a custom-crafted recessed handrail — complemented by finely executed metalwork throughout. Within the penthouse, a sculptural curved staircase was designed to maximise space while creating a striking architectural feature. Elsewhere, thoughtful details abound, including a circular glass-accented door that balances privacy, functionality and artistry in equal measure.
From the earliest stages of design development through to final handover, we worked alongside one of Jerusalem's leading architectural practices, coordinating international consultants, specialist trades, together with local and international contractors to deliver a residence of enduring quality and character. Today, Rashba stands as a seamless conversation between heritage and contemporary design, honouring the craftsmanship of the 1930s while creating a home designed for generations to come.
Scope: End-to-end project leadership from design development through to completion, including international consultant coordination, heritage preservation, quality assurance and client representation throughout the delivery process.
